Monday Morning One Liners...NYS Senate update

New labor rules under an Obama presidency and a Democratic supermajority in Congress could result in additional grocery chains being unionized within six months, according to a union organizer speaking in a conference call Friday. Patrick O’Neill, executive vice president of the United Food and Commercial Workers union.

Sholom Rubashkin, son of Agriprocessors owner Abraham Aaron Rubashkin and a former plant manager, has been charged with conspiracy to harbor undocumented immigrants for financial gain, aiding and abetting document fraud, and aiding and abetting aggravated identity theft. In May, the Postville, Iowa, plant was raided, and agents arrested 389 workers, more than 30 of which were reportedly children.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union said it has filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against 2 Sisters Food Group, the primary supplier of prepared foods for Tesco-owned Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, over the alleged firing of six workers.
