World's Most Ethical Company!?

Ethisphere, an international think-tank, named Target Corp. one of the World's Most Ethical Companies in 2011! (This could be the title of an Onion article)  

We all witnessed how Target acted last year when their employees from Valley Stream banded together and demanded more from the company.  Target was literally federally charged in 2011 for violating their workers rights, yet today they find themselves on a list of the world's most ethical companies.  Target is not even the most ethical company in Valley Stream Long Island, let alone the rest of the world.

Wal-Mart pays at least $352 million in wage violations, Study confirms that Wal-Mart is still not good for NYC...Happy Holidays

Wal-Mart said on Tuesday that it would pay at least $352 million, and possibly far more, to settle lawsuits across the country claiming that it forced employees to work off the clock. Several lawyers described it as the largest settlement ever for lawsuits over wage violations.

A study released today by the non-profit Fiscal Policy Institute shows that retail is the industry sector that employs the biggest chunk of the 1.3 million low-wage workers in this city -- that is, workers earning less than $13 per hour. Nearly half of these 176,000 low-wage retail workers earn less than $10 an hour, and the majority lack health insurance.


More workers were fired at a Canada mushroom farm.

Retailers are offering President Elect Obama advice on how to lift the economy.

A curbed tipster says "The former Gristedes Supermarket located on West 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue is re-opening as a 'Trader John's' supermarket. I'm not quite sure what 'Trader John's' is all about but I'm thinking it might be similar to Trader Joe's. Who knows. The new store sign and awning have been hung."

United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500, the state's largest grocery workers Union, is transporting low income residents and seniors from Long Island City to a nearby Pathmark so they can have equal and fair access to purchase food during this Holiday season. The Unions effort is in response to what it calls a growing trend of "economic discrimination" by upscale grocers who do not accept programs such as Women, Infants and Children and Food Stamps.

Activist investor Bill Ackman is urging Target to move to a sale-leaseback model, in which Target would sell its real estate holdings to a subsidiary that would then lease the stores back to Target.
