Over 200 Turnout for Annual Summer Blood Drive & BBQ

Last week our Blood drive and Summer BBQ was a huge success!  We were able to collect 129 pints of blood which will go to over 400 New Yorkers in need, all thanks to YOU!  From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much to all our volunteers and donors for taking time out of your day to make a difference in your community.  Since we began running Blood Drives in our new office, our union has helped over 1,000 New Yorkers who are in urgent need of Blood!  Thanks again, and if you'd like to set up your own blood drive, or to find out when our next one is, shoot us an email

Wednesday Morning One Liners...Local 1360 continues talks with Acme,

Acme supermarket and UFCW Local 1360 make progress, but still no agreement.

 Supermarket News: Acme Markets here said it was making progress with union workers on a new contract, averting threat of an immediate strike.

Food Lion is still interested in Bi-Lo:
A spokeswoman for Food Lion here yesterday acknowledged that its agreement to buy the majority of Bi-Lo’s assets out of bankruptcy for $425 million was no longer valid, but said the chain remains “strongly interested” in acquiring some Bi-Lo assets.

Whole Foods is offering incentives to employees who are in good health, the Progressive Grocer reports that  Whole Foods team members will receive discounts of 20 percent to 30 percent on store items based on measurements of blood pressure, cholesterol levels, body-mass index, and whether they smoke.

The Atlantic Yards developer gets the OK to take the land.

According to a report released by Health Care for America Now and the Center for American Progress, 14,000 Americans are losing health insurance every day during this economic crisis.

Wal-Mart has agreed to change its recruitment and hiring methods for over-the-road truck drivers, and pay $17.5 million to thousands who say they were denied the jobs because of their race, resolving a nationwide class-action lawsuit that was set for trial next month.
