Summer Blood Drive Aids NY Blood Shortage Crisis

First off, I'm writing to extend a thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating blood yesterday. Because of your help over 300 New Yorkers will be able receive the gift of life and we have helped aid the New York summer blood shortage crisis.

Secondly, I want to apologize if you experienced any long delays throughout the registration process. There are no excuses for the extended wait times and I have personally reached out to the New York Blood Center to ensure our next drive will run smoother, faster and much more efficient.

I cannot say it enough, but thank you to those who had to wait an extended time to donate. Most of you could have easily left, but chose to stay. I deeply appreciate your charitable spirit.

We had tremendous success at yesterday's Blood Drive, even through the NY Blood Center staff shortages we collected over 100 pints of Blood.

New York Blood Center Says Summer Blood Emergency Continues

NYBC urges public to take action and donate life-saving blood during the summer blood shortage to come forward

The New York Blood Center (NYBC) is still in the midst of a declared blood emergency and is asking the public to help replenish the blood supply by donating all blood types or by hosting a blood drive in their community.  NYBC’s inventory is currently at critically low levels. It is the responsibility of all New Yorkers to donate and help keep the community’s summer blood supply in tact – NYBC must be prepared with an adequate supply to withstand any type of emergency.

Emergency Blood Drive: March 24th

This brutal winter has been especially difficult for blood centers across the northeast.  That's why the NY Blood Center has asked us to host an Emergency Blood Drive on March 24th from 2-8 pm at our Union Hall.

Please RSVP today to reserve your time-slot.  Time-slots are scheduled every 15 minutes from 2-8 pm (you may also call 800-522-0456 ext. 1305 for an appointment).

In addition to lunch and refreshments for all donors,  we're also raffling off 10 pairs of New York Mets tickets.  Each donor will be entered into the raffle for free!  Please RSVP now and share the event to your friends on Facebook so we can help our community once again.

Over 200 Turnout for Annual Summer Blood Drive & BBQ

Volunteer helps donor Aly Waddy

Last week our Blood drive and Summer BBQ was a huge success!  We were able to collect 129 pints of blood which will go to over 400 New Yorkers in need, all thanks to YOU!  From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much to all our volunteers and donors for taking time out of your day to make a difference in your community.  Since we began running Blood Drives in our new office, our union has helped over 1,000 New Yorkers who are in urgent need of Blood!  Thanks again, and if you'd like to set up your own blood drive, or to find out when our next one is, shoot us an email!

People donate blood for many reasons.  For me, I've seen the benefits of what blood donation has done for my family members first hand.

Blood centers throughout New York are in desperate need of our help. The reality is scary, supply levels are at a dangerous 1-day supply of blood.  There couldn't be a more important time than now to donate blood and help the thousands of New Yorkers who need blood in order to survive each day.  Last year we were able to donate over 100 pints of blood to the NY Blood Center.  This year we've set a goal to exceed last year's mark and need your help!

Join us this Wednesday,  July 11, 2012,  from 2-8 PM for our annual Blood Drive at our Union Hall (425 Merrick Ave. Westbury NY 11590).  We'll be hosting a free BBQ for all donors, volunteers and families to say thank you for helping save a life.

First Summer BBQ and Blood Drive

Image by acroamatic via FlickrThanks to everyone who came out to our first Summer BBQ and Blood Drive. We were able to donate 92 units of blood over the course of six hours. Hope everyone enjoyed the food and refreshments and congratulations to the raffle winners. Another thanks to the nurses and rest of the staff who were very professional and did a great job. It was nice to see our members and their families coming together for a good cause. Once again thank you to all those that participated in helping save a life.

You don’t need a special reason to give blood.

You just need your own reason.

• Some of us give blood because we were asked by a friend.
• Some know that a family member or a friend might need blood some day.
• Some believe it is the right thing we do.

Whatever your reason, the need is constant and your contribution is important for a healthy and reliable blood supply.  And  you’ll feel good knowing you've helped change a life.

Eligibility Criteria:

-Bring ID with signature of Photo
-Min weight 110 lbs.
-Ages 16-75
-Eat well (low fat) and drink fluids
-No Tattoos for the past 12 months

Walk-ins are welcome, but scheduling is encouraged.
