WESTBURY, NY (1/4/2019)(readMedia)—The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the Long Island, N.Y. based King Kullen Supermarket Company as well as their wholly owned subsidiary Wild by Nature. The agreement includes both King Kullen and Wild by Nature Brands and a total of 37 stores located throughout Long Island, New York.

Tony Speelman, President of the over 18,000 member UFCW Local 1500, said “Stop & Shop’s newly announced acquisition of the King Kullen & Wild by Nature will affect the retail supermarket landscape on Long Island.  UFCW Local 1500 will work closely with its membership and the executives of the three companies involved to make sure this transition goes as smoothly as possible.  Our primary focus will be protecting the benefits, working conditions and futures of our members and their families. This will be a difficult and confusing time for thousands of our members and we commit to standing side by side with all of them to ensure the best results.” Speelman concluded.

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company and the King Kullen Company have been represented by UFCW Local 1500 for decades.  The companies employ members of UFCW Local 1500 whom are protected by Collective Bargaining Agreements.  It is the Union’s priority to ensure that the protections in the Collective Bargaining Agreements are followed and fully enforced.  UFCW Local 1500, Stop and Shop and King Kullen have had a very productive history of working together and we intend on continuing that relationship with these companies through this transition.
